As with anything, there are a lot of pros and cons to working part time, but if you’re a working mum looking for something to help balance your work and family life, part time work can be a good option.

Working part time instead of full time can allow breathing space from work stress, which means you’ll have more time to focus on remaining calm for the kids rather than bringing work home. Employers of part time jobs often tend to be more flexible to employees, allowing them to adjust working hours and days around the school run or children’s hobbies.

Jobs-Working Mums

For first time or new mums it can also mean being able to keep up with a social life, as sometimes the shock of parenting can cause feelings of isolation. Not all women want to leave the job market once they decide to have a family, and so part time work can offer the opportunity to remain in contact with the job industry, and maintain that good reputation that a person might have spent years building up. For those women who want the option of returning to full time work at some point when the kids are old enough, it’s important to remain in contact with connections and also to keep using work skills can that mean going back into a good, well-paid job.

Some may see work less as an opportunity to build a career and more as a way to remain independent, earn some cash and build a good social life that can be difficult to maintain without working. Whatever your reasons are, working part time as a mum can mean feeling less isolated, more independence and the best part, remaining in contact with the working world. This means that fewer women have to choose between work and family life, as they can now have it all!
